Penguins and Chile's Endemics - Coastal Range for Endemics and Seabirds along the Pacific Coast - Birding day tour from Santiago or Valparaiso, Chile

Book this trip, reserve space now!Birding and nature photography trip to the Coastal Range and the Pacific Coast in search of the endemics and specialties of Chile's Mediterranean region. We will explore the broad-leaf woodlands, scrublands and cacti-covered slopes, looking for skulking tapaculos and canasteros. Along the coast we will concentrate in finding the endemic seabirds of the Humboldt Current including cormorants, Inca Terns and Humboldt Penguins. This moderate tour is suitable for cruise passengers with restricted time at the ports of call.

Full day tour (10-12 hours) from Santiago de Chile or Valparaiso | Daily departures throughout the year.

Penguins & Chile's Endemics | Day Tour | Trip Code SCL02

Versión en Español / Spanish version

Early in the morning, we will leave to La Campana National Park, where we will look for interesting passerines, including some endemic species to Chile, such as the Dusky-tailed Canastero, Moustached Turca and White-throated Tapaculo. We are also likely to encounter the remarkable Giant Hummingbird, Austral Pygmy Owl and Chilean Pigeon. In the afternoon we will continue exploring the coastal areas, visiting a protected breeding colony of Humboldt Penguin; we hope to be able to see here the scarce and range-restricted Southern Sea Otter. To end the day we will stop in a coastal marsh to see a variety of waterfowl including Red Shoveler, Yellow-billed Pintail, Speckled Teal and Chiloe Wigeon, all three lowland coot species, Spot-flanked Gallinule and Plumbeous Rail, which surprisingly is a rallid quite easy to spot as often walks in the open.
