Leopard Seal - Cuverville Island, Antarctica

Leopard Seal, Cuverville Island, Antarctica © Fantástico Sur ExpeditionsThe Leopard Seal is one of the most feared hunters of the Antarctic seas. Silently and patiently patrols the peripgery of the penguin rookeries waiting for the chance of capture an elusive adult penguin or to easily grab a chick on its first plunge. I took this photo from the zodiac at fairly close quarters; this is a very inquisitive animal yet can result very dangerous at sea.
