Mountain Parakeet (Psilopsiagon aurifrons), Santiago, Chile

Dominating an Andean gorge from a boulder, a pair of Mountain Parakeet, Psilopsiagon aurifrons margaritae, listen to the contact calls from their flock at 3,500 m above sea level in the Andes mountains to the east of Santiago, Chile. The smallest and least seen of Chilean parrots, their flocks roam the heights of this range searching for food in the form of seeds, fruits and buds.
